Obituary of Mick Vargo

Mick Vargo, 93, of South Plainfield, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2016 at the Aristacare at Norwood in Plainfield. Mr. Vargo was born in Hopelawn to the late Miklos and Barbara (Rebicza) Vargo, and had lived most of his life in Fords, before moving to South Plainfield twenty two years ago. He was a United States Army veteran of WWII. Mr. Vargo was employed as a machinist. He had worked at the Raitan Arsenal until it's closing, and then was employed by General Motors in Clark for many years until his retirement. He was a member of the Our Lady of Peace RC Church in Fords. Mr. Vargo was also a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 857 of Woodbridge. He was an avid sports fan, and greatly enjoyed crosswords and gardening. He was predeceased by two brothers; John and Steve and also by two sisters; Helen Martin and Julia Matis. As a young man Mick met the love of his life, Elizabeth Wishney. After their marriage, he built a home for them, where they spent over fifty wonderful years together. Their special love affair has lasted for seventy two years. In addition to his beloved wife Elizabeth, he is also survived by his son Mickey Vargo of Fords, his daughter Barbara Vargo of South Plainfield, and four grandchildren; John Massaro of South Plainfield, Kristin Rutkowski of Bethlehem, PA, Laura Bernauer of Scotch Plains, and Jonathan Vargo of Eureka, MO. Funeral services will be held Wednesday 10 am at the Mitruska Funeral Home, 531 New Brunswick Ave. Fords. Interment will follow in the Our Lady of Hungary Cemetery also in Fords. Visitation hours will be held Tuesday from 4 pm to 7 pm at the funeral home.
