Obituary of Dr. Mary E. Hansen (PhD)

Mary Eileen Hansen, 78, of Somerset, passed away Monday, September 19, 2022 at the Penn Medicine Princeton Medical Center, of Plainsboro. Ms. Hansen was born in South Amboy, NJ to the late Arthur L. and Mary T. Hansen. After Eileen graduated from Edison High School, she went on to obtain degrees in higher education from Syracuse University, San Jose State University, and Rutgers University. After graduating, she started her first teaching job in Perth Amboy, kickstarting a 50-year career in education. Over the years she was employed by Rutgers University, Middlesex County College, and Kean University. Eileen was a past president of the NJ Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and a member of International TESOL. Up until her passing, she was a member of the board of Kingsberry Acres. A beloved sister, aunt, and friend, Eileen is survived by her brother Allan A. Hansen and his wife Janet of Harrisburg, PA, four nieces, Deborah ( Michael), Beth Ann (Billy), Allison, and Linda. She is also survived by three great nieces, Kara, Natalie, and Annaliese and one great nephew, Elliott. Her Jersey friends: Marcia, Janet, Judy, Helen, Kathy and Lore, and her loving companions, dog, Scooter and cat, Skittle, all held a special place in her heart. Funeral services will be held Thursday 10:30am at the Mitruska Funeral Home Inc., 531 New Brunswick Ave, Fords, followed by an 11:00am service in the St. Peters Episcopal Church 183 Rector Street, Perth Amboy. Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery. Visitation hours will be held Wednesday from 6-8 pm. at the Funeral home.
