Obituary of Julia May

Julia May, 86, of Avenel, passed away Sunday, January 7, 2018 at The Highlands in Edison. Mrs. May was born in Elizabeth, to the late Charles and Beatrice Curtis Gernert and had lived the last sixty two years in Avenel. She was employed as a Nurses Aid with JFK Medical Center for twenty years before retiring in 1993. Julia was predeceased by two brothers and four sisters. She is survived by her loving husband of sixty eight years, Laurence M. May, three sons, Laurence H. May of Berkeley Heights, NJ, Richard May and his wife Linda of Jonesboro, AR and Frank May and his wife Susan of Eddy, TX,, five daughters, Linda Jackson of Berlin, NH, Joann DaSilva and her husband Eduardo of Avenel, NJ, Janet Sonnenberg and her husband Thomas of Avenel, NJ, Laura Bernard of Avenel, NJ and Cindy Swider and her husband Peter of Easton, PA,, one sister, Gladys Hudson of Sunbury OH., three brothers, Joe Gernert of Sunbury, OH., Bob Gernert of Parsippany, NJ., Peter Gernert of St. Petersburg FL., twenty four grandchildren, forty four great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday 10:00 am at the Mitruska Funeral Home, 531 New Brunswick Ave., Fords. Interment will follow in the Cloverleaf Memorial Park Cemetery in Woodbridge. Visitation hours will be held Wednesday 6 to 8 pm. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Woodbridge Animal Shelter, 2 George Frederick Plaza, Woodbridge NJ., 07095.
