Obituary of Veronica Tartas

Veronica Tartas, 96, of Fords, passed away Sunday, October 1, 2017 at the JFK Haven Hospice in Edison. Mrs. Tartas was born in Brooklyn, NY to the late Michael and Adela Gabrys and had been a longtime resident of Fords.

In addition to being a devoted wife and homemaker, Veronica had been employed as a phone operator for AT&T in New York for ten years prior to her retirement in 1956.

Mrs. Tartas was a member of the Our Lady of Peace RC Church in Fords. She was also a member of the VFW Post 7090 Ladies Auxiliary in Brooklyn.

She was predeceased by two brothers Matthew Gabrys and Alfred Gabrys, her sister Francis Piastuck, and by her nephew Captain Stephen Gabrys who was killed in action in Vietnam.

She is survived by her loving husband, of seventy-one years, John Tartas, and also several nieces and nephews and great nieces and a great nephew.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, 10 am at the Mitruska Funeral Home, 531 New Brunswick Ave. in Fords. Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery in Woodside, NY.

Visitation hours will be held Wednesday from 4 pm to 8 pm. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
